A quick serious discussion

A short discussion on our cakes as an art

and the possible sticker shock.

First, we would like to say, “thank you” for considering Eloise Loves Cake to help celebrate your exciting day! We take cake seriously here.  Happiness is the key to life and well know that sugar makes you smile and a smile is the start to happiness.

We know that you have many options in regard to cakes and cake artists. We idolize all artists whether it’s the big wigs on the Food Channel to the wonderful people at Safeway who make those yummy supermarket cakes that taste great with cheap wine at 1 a.m.  The point being is that you have options and we take no offense if you decide to go with another baker even if it is a Costco cake that is WAY cheaper.  You do what you need to!

The reason Eloise Loves Cake took a break from cakes (besides having bad cake juju for a bit there) was to balance out the pricing component and the amount of time that we were putting into our cakes.  When it came down to it, we were literally working for a couple of dollars an hour and burning out fast! So we took a step back, tightened our apron strings, pulled up our business britches and put our feelings aside. WE ARE CAKE ARTISTS AND WHAT WE MAKE IS ART SO THE PRICES ARE REFLECTIVE OF OUR ART which is comparable to the other amazing artists in the area. Our prices are based on us receiving a smidge over minimum wage, the cost of our products, and a small amount of overhead to keep the business running… plain and simple.

We appreciate your understanding and encourage you to contact us with any questions that you might have.  If you are a friend or family member, you are still that even if you do not chose us and there will be no weirdness and we encourage you to show us the beautiful cake you did go with.  Again, we love all cakes and are inspired by others!  If you get a quote from us and do not feel that it is appropriate, we are more than happy to refer you to another great baking company whether it be a high end or wonderful Costco with no judgment.  Cake is delicious at all levels!

We require a non refundable $100 deposit when we confirm your order to allow us to get your ingredients and start your cake.  This is non-refundable which means that we will not be returning your money and can be paid cash, check, or PayPal.

  Let's Talk Prices...

IMG-0009 (1)_edited.jpg

Money and cost are never a fun conversation and it would be so much easier if we could say "this type of cake" costs this much...  The hard truth is that each cake is different and our prices are based on the cost of our products, and a small amount of overhead to keep the business running, and then us receiving a smidge over minimum wage.  We are competitive with other cake artists out there but we are under no delusions that you can go and get a way cheaper cake at Costco.

We do require a minimum of $125 per cake order and $50 per treat only order.

Cake treats such as cupcakes, cake pops, pretzels, and Krispy Treats are sold in a minimum of 24, but can be sold individually after 24 (i.e. 25, 27, 43, etc.). Treats can be mixed in sets of 12 or more to create a total of 24+.

Below is a rough estimate of our base prices for each item but for exact prices, please text us.

If you are curious about an estimate, please feel free to ask.  We take no offense to the phrase, "are you kidding?"  We just ask that if you are willing, if you get a cake elsewhere we would love to see it as we love to see cakes as much as the next guy.

We do ask that orders be made no less than two weeks in advance.  No exceptions.

With all of our cakes and cake treat orders, we do require a $25-100 non refundable (aka you're not getting it back) deposit upon confirmation of the order.

How Much Cake Should I Get?...

What size should I get?

This is always the question and there are two schools of cutting.  Your typical slice where you cut to the middle and get a “triangle slice” or the wedding/European cut where you’re trying to save money.  If you are into the wedding cut, we will send a diagram with your cake.  Just remind us or google it.  For me, I like a nice triangle slice, but each their own.

Examples:

6 inch -  Triangle: 5-8 slices   Wedding: 8

8 inch - Triangle: 12-16   Wedding: about 24

10 inch - Triangle: 14-20  Wedding: about 39

If you are getting a two tiered or more, add the cakes together.  Cakes are separated unless you just want to dig into the thing with a fork.

Tell Me About 3D Cakes...

IMG-5179.JPG

3-Dimensional cakes can consist of edible and non edible features depending upon need. We try our best to make everything we can edible and generally only use modeling chocolate if possible as that is our favorite and tastes the best. There are those times, however, that plastic is the way to go. In those instances, if you do not have the piece already, we will try and find that piece at a price as low as possible. If you have a specific piece that you would like to add to the cake that cannot be added when you receive the cake, we ask that you get it to us no later than two weeks prior to the cake's due date.  WE TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY OF THIS ITEM AND IF IT BREAKS WE ARE NOT REPLACING IT AND WE WAIVE ALL LIABILITY, SO DON'T SUE US. Be in the know that in making cakes there is a lot of dyes, glitter, oils, and such that can damage items, so be warned.

This is the part where we become weather men/women.  Weather and cakes do not mix well.  We will provide you will recommended care instructions, however even more so with the 3-D cakes, droopage or movement is natural in heat.  Once you take charge of the cake (aka you touch), it is now your responsibility and we waive any responsibility on how your cake acts.

We Can Deliver to You...

Due to high gas prices, we are needing to charge for delivery at this time.

Delivery to you: At this time we are charging round trip.  We charge 0.85 a mile from our business in Lakewood (address will be provided when calculating but we are near the Long Beach Towne Center off Los Coyotes Diagonal and Carson St.) to your door and then back to our door.  Just to give you an idea on cost, if we were to deliver to Disneyland, it would cost around $28.

You are also more than welcome to pick your cake up or meet us at a halfway point and pay for delivery to that point.

Once again... once you touch the cake you take full responsibility for it.  We try our best to make our cakes stable, but we are not miracle workers and cannot make promises.

Just some interesting points regarding transporting and our policies:

  • If we are delivering the cake and you are not there within the planned 15 minute delivery window and cannot be accounted for, and you have already paid, we will leave the cake in the shade.  If you have not paid, we will take the cake back with us and you will have to pick up the cake or pay for another round trip of delivery based on our availability.  If you are late more than 15 minutes receiving the cake, you are responsible for any mishaps because cakes don’t like sitting in cars, especially during the summer.

  • Cakes keep odd hours as they like cool weather so deliveries are often earlier in the morning or later at night.  There are some exceptions but we listen to the cake, not what is always of most benefit to you and maybe you want to pick it up instead.  With that being said, between the time of delivery and eating, it is your responsibility to care for it and we are no longer responsible.

Delivery vs. Pick Up...

Be Aware...

  1. We have no money so please don't think that if you sue us you are going to get anything.

  2. The deposit that you give us is non refundable which means you are not going to get it back unless we mess up.  We need it to get your delicious ingredients

  3. We are artists, not miracle workers, therefore we cannot make everything come out exactly what may be in the picture that you submitted, match the color swatch you submitted, or execute an idea from your head (we don’t read minds).  That being said, we will try our hardest and make your cake beautiful regardless. If you do not like how your cake came out, however, you are more than welcome to cancel your order and we will give you a list of other bakeries, but you are still not getting back your deposit and you will not get the cake.  Canceling = no cake and no deposit.

  4. We pride ourselves on adhering to the utmost sanitary conditions however things happen.  We are not responsible if you have an allergic reaction or get ill.  By taking the cake or treats, you are taking full responsibility of your health and the health of your guests and are releasing us of any and all liability.

  5. Weather and Traveling.  We live in a hot climate and cakes and the heat do not mix.  Buttercream can slouch in hot weather and the 3-D figures can melt or droop. Cakes also do not like to be jiggled and delivering can jiggle them.  If we deliver the cake and something happens, we will take responsibility.  However, if you chose to transport the cake, you are responsible for securing it.  We will give you care instructions. Once you touch the cake or treats, we are no longer responsible.  You can call and ask for advice but we are still not responsible.

  6. Final Payment is due upon receiving the cake.  You don’t get the cake or treats until payment is made.  If you are paying by PayPal, please complete the transaction prior to pick up/delivery or when you pick up the cake/treats.

  7. If we are delivering the cake and you are not there within the planned 15 minute delivery window and cannot be accounted for, and you have already paid, we will leave the cake in the shade.  If you have not paid, we will take the cake back with us and you will have to pick up the cake or pay for another round trip of delivery based on our availability.  If you are late more than 15 minutes receiving the cake, you are responsible for any mishaps because cakes don’t like sitting in cars, especially during the summer.

  8. Cakes keep odd hours as they like cool weather so deliveries are often earlier in the morning or later at night.  There are some exceptions but we listen to the cake, not what is always of most benefit to you and maybe you want to pick it up instead.  With that being said, between the time of delivery and eating, it is your responsibility to care for it and we are no longer responsible.

Did we mention that the Deposit is Non Refundable?

It's always those people that say, "I didn't see that!"  Therefore we are making this statement its very own little section.  The Deposit Is Non Refundable which means that we are not going to give it back to you.  Deposits are used to buy ingredients ahead of time, and if you cancel, we are still stuck with the ingredients and out the money.  So again, deposits are not returnable, non refundable, and will not be returned no matter how cute your kitten is.
